Why China Lab
实验
You cannot understand China from news and reports alone. The calendar, the five elements, classical idioms and the idea of face still shape how Chinese partners pick a date for a deal, name a company and negotiate. China Lab opens that culture through practice: instead of reading about BaZi, you see your own chart.
I am Mikhail Ansimov (米硕), a sinologist, interpreter and consultant who has worked in Shenzhen for many years. I have seen a single well-chosen chengyu or a respectful question about someone’s zodiac year change the mood of a negotiation more than any presentation. This is the collection I wish I had when I first arrived in China.
Every tool is interactive, but we treat the tradition with respect: we calculate by the classical rules, explain our methods and say plainly that this is cultural heritage, not science or fortune-telling. Play, learn, ask questions — and let it become the start of a real conversation with China.

What is China Lab?+
It is the section of the ANSIMOFF site with interactive tools on Chinese culture: a BaZi calculator, a five-elements test, an I Ching reading, a Chinese name generator and more. Each tool comes with an explanation by a sinologist.
Is it free?+
Yes, all China Lab tools are free and require no registration. If you need advice on doing business in China, a consultation can be booked separately.
How accurate are the calculations?+
Calendar calculations follow the classical rules using the open-source lunar-javascript library, with time zones and true solar time taken into account. The interpretations are symbolic: this is a cultural tradition, not a scientific forecast.
Who is behind the project?+
Mikhail Ansimov (米硕), a sinologist, interpreter and China business consultant based in Shenzhen. The texts draw on classical sources and first-hand experience of working in China.
